The kumquat tree is a little tropical fruit tree that looks good in a garden or a big container as a landscaping item. This broadleaf evergreen has olive-sized fruits that resemble tiny oranges and beautiful, dark green leaves. The kumquat, which was formerly placed in the Fortunella genus, has been reclassified as Citrus japonica, where it now belongs with oranges, lemons, and other related fruit-bearing trees. Kumquat fruit has an edible, sweet exterior and somewhat sour flesh when it is ripe. The growth rate of kumquat trees is moderate; they can grow up to 24 inches a year.
