Because of its strikingly colored and contrasting leaf veins, Fittonia is commonly referred to as the "nerve plant" or "mosaic plant." The nerve plant is available in numerous varieties, each with a unique veining and leaf pattern. Native South American locations that are warm and humid, particularly Peru, are home to the plant. Fittonia hence requires a different kind of care than most other houseplants. Normal watering and misting are necessary because the plant needs high humidity and moist soil. For fittonia to thrive, the soil must also be conducive to robust leaves. Additionally, pruning is necessary to maintain the plant's bushy, full appearance and to stop it from wasting resources on uninteresting blossoms while it is in bloom.
