Under the Moraceae family of trees, which also includes mulberries, breadfruit, and figs, lies the jackfruit (Artocarpus heterophyllus), popularly called jack tree. Its birthplace lies between the rainforests of the Philippines, Indonesia, and Malaysia, the Western Ghats of southern India, and all of Bangladesh and Sri Lanka. The jack tree grows well in tropical lowlands and is commonly planted in tropical climates worldwide. Of all the trees, it produces the largest fruit, with a maximum weight of 55 kg (120 pounds), a maximum length of 90 cm (35 inches), and a maximum diameter of 50 cm (20 inches). An established jack tree can yield up to 200 fruits year, and elder trees can yield up to 500 fruits annually.The fleshy petals of the unripe fruit are consumed, and the jackfruit is a multi-fruit made up of hundreds to thousands of individual blooms. Depending on the kind, the ripe fruit might be sweet, and it's usually used for sweets. Because of its meat-like texture and mild flavor, canned green jackfruit is sometimes referred to as "vegetable meat." Asian cuisines from South and Southeast Asia frequently employ jackfruit. Fruits are eaten both ripe and unripe. It can be found in cans or frozen state in other countries, as well as in chilled dinners, along with other fruit-based goods such chips and noodles.
